The Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed Sandeep Rai Rathore as the new Director General of Police (DGP) for Tamil Nadu, effective immediately. This significant change in the state's police leadership comes as Tamil Nadu gears up for the April 23 Assembly elections. Rathore, a 1992-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, will also serve as the Head of Police Force (HoPF), succeeding G Venkataraman, who had been in charge since September 2025.
