The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in India has proposed a significant increase in the reservation for ex-Agniveers in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) from 10% to 50%. This proposal, outlined in a CISF circular, includes exemptions for ex-Agniveers from the written examination and physical efficiency tests. The circular is currently open for stakeholder comments but has yet to be officially notified. The recruitment will be conducted in two phases: the first will reserve 50% of vacancies specifically for ex-Agniveers, while the remaining vacancies will follow the existing recruitment provisions. This move comes as the first cohort of approximately 2,600 Agniveers, who joined the Navy in November 2022, is expected to retire and qualify for roles in various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). While the Border Security Force has already implemented a 50% reservation for ex-Agniveers, other forces have maintained a 10% reservation. The Agnipath scheme, introduced on June 14, 2022, allows for short-term recruitment into the armed forces for a period of four years, with a possibility of retaining a quarter of the recruits in the regular cadre after further screening.
