On Thursday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu celebrated the passage of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which legally recognizes Amaravati as the state capital. Naidu joined farmers in Uddandarayunipalem village, where the foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October 2015. He described the bill's passage as a historic moment for democracy, highlighting the sacrifices of nearly 29,000 farmers who pooled over 33,000 acres of land for the capital. Naidu expressed gratitude to the Union government and other political parties for their support, noting that only the YSR Congress Party opposed the bill. The Chief Minister reaffirmed his commitment to making Amaravati a world-class capital and promised balanced development across the state. In a show of community spirit, state IT minister Nara Lokesh encouraged residents to celebrate by lighting lamps at home. This legal recognition is expected to bring clarity and security to the development of Amaravati, which has faced uncertainty over the past 20 months.
