Shrinivas Luis, a 47-year-old man from Mysuru, Karnataka, India, has been arrested for allegedly sending 1,500 hoax bomb threat emails targeting various courts in Mumbai, including the Bombay High Court. The Delhi Police connected him to these threats, which aimed to disrupt court proceedings by falsely claiming bombs were planted in court premises. On December 18, 2022, the Bombay High Court and several other courts were evacuated due to such threats, causing significant disruptions. Luis, who has a background in law and is reportedly unemployed, harbored resentment against the judicial system due to his father's unsuccessful legal battles over property rights. Following a two-week manhunt, he was apprehended in Mysuru on April 28, 2023. Investigations are ongoing, with police seeking to determine if he is also responsible for similar threats sent to schools and hotels across India, as well as to courts in Pakistan. The Mumbai police have filed at least 17 First Information Reports (FIRs) against the perpetrator, while Chennai police have registered 22 FIRs, indicating a widespread issue with hoax threats in the region.
