VD Satheesan, born on May 31, 1964, in Nettoor, Ernakulam district, Kerala, is a seasoned politician and the current leader of the Opposition in the state. He has represented the Paravur constituency in the Kerala Assembly since 2001, winning five consecutive elections. Satheesan, who holds a master's degree in Social Work and a law degree, began his political career in student politics and has served in various capacities within the Indian National Congress, including as Vice President of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). He replaced Ramesh Chennithala as Leader of the Opposition in May 2021. Notably, he spearheaded a drinking water project in Paravur that benefited over 250,000 residents. With the Kerala Assembly elections set for April 9, 2026, Satheesan is focused on reviving the Congress party's fortunes in a state where it has been out of power for the last decade.
