The victim reported that Naresh Malik, the inspector in charge of the case, threatened to mishandle the chargesheet if she did not comply with his demands. An audio clip of Malik and another inspector, Sanjay Shukla, engaging in inappropriate conversation with the victim went viral, prompting immediate action from authorities. The victim had previously lodged a complaint on February 20 against forest officer Ugrasen Kumar Jaiswal, who was arrested on February 24 for allegedly raping her over six months under the pretext of marriage. The superintendent of police, Omvir Singh, confirmed that both inspectors were suspended as soon as the allegations came to light, and an inquiry led by additional superintendent of police Dinesh Kumar Shukla has been initiated.
