Maharashtra's Higher and Technical Education Minister, Chandrakant Patil, stated that the state will evaluate the feasibility of establishing a Cooperative University. This review comes in light of the Centre's initiatives, including the establishment of a Ministry of Cooperation and a proposed university by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Patil emphasized the importance of cooperation education in developing concepts and skills through training. The state will assess the necessity of a separate university alongside existing institutions such as the Vaikunthbhai Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management. He also mentioned plans for a cooperative education fund, which will be discussed in the upcoming monsoon session of the state legislature starting on June 12. Furthermore, Patil highlighted the progress in the cooperative sector, noting that approximately 12,000 development societies in Maharashtra have been computerized under a central scheme, with training for secretaries and online audits already completed.
