Haryana's Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda emphasized the importance of the 25% quota for children from disadvantaged and economically weaker sections under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009. All recognized private schools in Haryana are mandated to reserve these seats in class 1 and above. The education department has set a deadline for schools to upload details of these reserved seats on the departmental website and the ‘Ujjwal portal’ between March 11 and 20, 2026. Out of 9,230 private schools in the state, 8,621 reported their reserved seats on time, while 609 did not comply. Among those that complied, 891 failed to upload necessary recognition documents, leading to the temporary closure of the Management Information System (MIS) portal for around 1,500 schools. After discussions with school representatives regarding the impact on the admission process for the 2026-27 academic session, the education department reopened the portal, allowing schools another chance to meet the requirements. Dhanda urged all private schools to comply with the Act to ensure that no eligible child is deprived of their right to education.
