D. Selvam, the candidate for the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the Chepauk-Tiruvallikeni constituency, expressed that the current disunity between the Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) could work to TVK's advantage. He highlighted that if not for certain influential leaders within the Congress, the alliance with the DMK might have dissolved, leading to a potential partnership with TVK instead. Selvam, who previously served as a general secretary of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, was suspended from the party on March 25 for advocating this new alliance. He joined TVK just two days prior to the party's candidate announcement on March 29, positioning himself to contest against Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin in the upcoming elections.
