Southern Miss football coach Blake Anderson expressed that his team is still a work in progress following their spring game on April 18 at M.M. Roberts Stadium. With 67 new players and only offensive lineman Broderick Roman returning as a starter, Anderson highlighted the challenges of integrating so many new faces. He noted that the competition for the starting quarterback position remains tight, with transfers and returners showing similar performance metrics. Anderson commended the offensive line and tight ends for their increased physicality and mentioned growth in team chemistry. He acknowledged that while the team has improved, particularly in the secondary and defensive line, the linebackers still need development. Anderson remains focused on achieving a “championship-level result” despite recognizing that the team has a long way to go before the season begins. The Golden Eagles will kick off their season against Alcorn State on September 5.
