The Kerala government has enacted a ban on special classes during the summer vacation amid rising temperatures and heatwave conditions affecting the state. General Education Minister V Sivankutty announced that schools must adhere to the summer vacation schedule from the last working day of March until May. Any school conducting classes during this period will face strict consequences, as it violates the Kerala Education Rules. This measure aims to protect children from heat-related health risks, with the minister emphasizing that no institution has the right to disrupt students' holidays. The government has directed authorities to monitor compliance closely, highlighting the severe heat conditions that have even led to revised working hours for laborers. The minister reiterated that forcing children to attend classes in such extreme heat infringes on their fundamental rights and can adversely affect their physical and mental well-being. This directive applies to all educational institutions in Kerala, including government, aided, CBSE, and ICSE schools.
