On Saturday, two civilians, SW Chinaoshang (46) and Yaruingam Vashum (42), were shot dead by unidentified armed assailants on National Highway-202 near Ukhrul, Manipur, while traveling from Imphal. This incident occurred amidst heightened tensions in the region, where protests have been ongoing since April 7, following a bomb attack that killed two minors. The protests have included torchlight rallies demanding justice, leading to clashes with police, resulting in injuries. Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh has emphasized the government's commitment to restoring peace and addressing public concerns. The Working Committee of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) condemned the attack, attributing the violence to Kuki militants and criticizing the government's inaction. In response to the unrest, the state government has lifted a temporary suspension of mobile internet services in five districts, which had been imposed to prevent further violence. This decision reflects the government's recognition of the public's difficulties due to the internet ban, which affected various essential services and institutions.
