The Uttar Pradesh government has unveiled a significant investment plan of over ₹2,900 crore aimed at fostering urban development in smaller towns and cities. This initiative, known as the 'Navayug Palika Yojana', seeks to replicate the successful 'Smart City Mission' by enhancing urban infrastructure in Tier II and III towns across 58 districts. The government estimates an annual expenditure of ₹583 crore, with a total investment projected to exceed ₹2,915 crore by the end of the 2029-30 fiscal year. The plan focuses on equipping towns with modern infrastructure, promoting digital governance, and improving the overall 'ease of living' for citizens. Additionally, the government aims to develop 100 new townships to address regional imbalances and stimulate economic activity beyond major urban centers. Urban Development Minister A K Sharma emphasized the commitment to balanced urban growth, while experts highlight the potential for growth in various sectors due to this initiative.
