The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh (approximately $1,200 USD) on Romi Bhinder, the manager of Rajasthan Royals, for violating anti-corruption rules by using his mobile phone in the dugout during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Guwahati on April 10. The BCCI's anti-corruption unit, led by Sharad Kumar, issued a showcause notice to Bhinder, whose response was deemed unsatisfactory. According to IPL protocols, mobile phone usage is strictly prohibited in the dugout but allowed in the dressing room. Bhinder was reportedly found scrolling his phone alongside player Vaibhav Sooryavanshi during the match. Sources indicate that Bhinder has been facing health issues, which may have contributed to the breach. As this was his first offense, the BCCI has opted for a fine and a warning rather than a more severe penalty.
