Mike Carl has announced his resignation as the girls basketball coach at Lakeland Christian School in Lakeland, Florida, after nearly 20 years in the role. Following the regional quarterfinal game against John Carroll Catholic, he informed his team of his decision to accept a position as athletic director at Lakes Academy, effective July 1. Reflecting on his time at Lakeland Christian, Carl expressed gratitude for the relationships he built and the memories he created while coaching. He led the girls basketball program for 18 seasons, achieving notable success, including reaching the regional finals in 2016 and 2025. Carl's coaching philosophy centered around using basketball to impart life lessons and encourage players' spiritual growth. His departure comes after personal reflection following the loss of his brother to cancer and the desire to spend more time with his growing family, including four new grandchildren. Rudi Jessee, a standout player under Carl's guidance, acknowledged his impact on her development as a player.
