The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has initiated a project to identify and document structures over 100 years old, focusing on railway stations, schools, and colleges in New Delhi. This effort, prompted by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), aims to create a comprehensive database that will include details such as the name, age, ownership status, and current condition of each building. Notably, the survey will exclude hospitals, dispensaries, and police stations. Prominent sites expected to be included are St. Stephen’s College, Hindu College, and the Old Delhi Railway Station. This initiative follows a 2010 notification by the urban development department, which categorized 1,318 heritage sites into three grades based on their historical significance. The MCD's heritage cell anticipates that this exercise will enhance its existing database and potentially support future heritage conservation efforts.
