The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission-2 has ruled in favor of Omesh Garg, a resident of Sector 38 West, Chandigarh, who experienced a 10-year delay in the transfer of his Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) dues after changing jobs from Tech Mahindra to Infosys in 2010. The commission found the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) guilty of deficiency in service and directed it to pay ₹50,000 as compensation for the harassment and litigation expenses incurred by Garg. Despite Garg's efforts, including multiple Right to Information (RTI) applications, the EPFO only transferred ₹6.21 lakh in April 2020, nearly a decade after his request. Additional payments were made in 2022, but Garg's claim for an outstanding amount of ₹1.62 lakh was rejected due to lack of expert verification supporting his calculations. The commission criticized the EPFO for its unsubstantiated delay, emphasizing that such negligence constitutes unfair trade practices.
