This upgrade, announced at an event in San Francisco, aims to combat the growing issues of bots and deepfakes across various digital platforms. The World ID system utilizes custom-built 'Orb' devices that scan users' faces and irises to create unique cryptographic codes, ensuring users' identities remain private. Despite its privacy features, the use of biometric scanning has drawn criticism. The update includes new partnerships with platforms such as Tinder, where users can earn a 'verified human' badge, and Zoom, which will implement a feature called 'Deep Face' to verify meeting participants. Additionally, the rollout introduces a World ID app for managing credentials and enhancing user experience. Altman emphasized that the project aims to create a 'real human network for the internet,' addressing the increasing demand for secure and authentic online interactions.
