In response to a severe heat wave affecting Odisha, authorities have ordered the closure of all schools, colleges, and educational institutions in Bolangir, Subarnapur, and Kalahandi districts from April 18 to April 21. Kalahandi district is under a Red Warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), emphasizing the health risks posed by the extreme temperatures. The highest temperature recorded was 43.5 degrees Celsius in Titlagarh, while Bolangir followed closely at 42.3 degrees Celsius. Despite the closures, supplementary examinations for Classes 5 and 8 will proceed in the early morning hours, with provisions for light refreshments for students. The IMD forecasts that heat wave conditions will persist in various districts, including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur, with warm nights expected in some areas.
