Tulips are known for their beauty, but they often droop in vases, frustrating many flower lovers. Gardening instructor Bethie conducted a trial to find effective ways to keep tulips upright. In her experiment, she tested four methods: placing tulips in vodka, adding coins, using a pin to create a hole in the stems, and a control group with no modifications. The vodka method resulted in the worst outcome, with the tulips appearing 'sad, saggy, and droopy.' The control group performed slightly better, while the coin method provided some structural integrity. However, the standout technique was the pin method, which involves making a small air hole under the tulip petals. This simple task allows trapped air to escape, enabling the plant to absorb more water and remain strong and upright. Bethie's findings highlight that a quick three-second task can significantly enhance the longevity and appearance of tulips in vases.
