In a joint statement shared on Instagram, they expressed that the decision to separate was made with love and respect for one another. The couple, who got engaged in October 2020, has also decided to end their joint podcast, 'A Touch More'. They reflected on their journey together, which included significant milestones both personally and professionally, such as being the first same-sex couple featured on the cover of ESPN The Magazine's 'Body Issue' in 2018. Their relationship began in 2016 after they met at the Rio Olympics, and they have supported each other through their respective careers, with Bird retiring from the WNBA in 2022 and Rapinoe stepping away from professional soccer in 2023. Despite the breakup, they emphasized the deep bond they share and their gratitude for the support from their community.
