The tragic boiler explosion at the Vedanta Limited power plant in Singhitarai village, Sakti district, Chhattisgarh, has claimed 19 lives, with 17 others injured. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon due to a technical fault in the water supply pipeline joint of the boiler's steam pipe. A magisterial inquiry has been initiated to investigate the circumstances surrounding the explosion, including potential negligence and safety inspections. The deceased workers hail from various states, including Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. In response to the tragedy, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh (approximately $6,000 USD) for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 (approximately $600 USD) for the injured.
