Akshay Kumar has confirmed that his much-anticipated war drama film 'Gorkha' is officially shelved. During a recent live chat with fans, he stated, “Nahi Gorkha movie nahi ban rahi hai” (No, the Gorkha movie is not being made). While he did not disclose specific reasons for the shelving, reports suggest that budget constraints and unresolved technical issues played significant roles in the decision. The film was based on the life of Major General Ian Cardozo, a celebrated officer of the Gorkha regiment of the Indian Army, and was set to be directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan. The first poster of 'Gorkha' was released in 2021, where Akshay expressed his honor in portraying such an inspiring figure. In a previous statement, producer Anand L Rai emphasized the importance of getting the subject matter right before proceeding with the film. Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar's latest release, 'Bhoot Bangla', premiered on April 17 and garnered mixed reviews, earning ₹12.50 crore (approximately $1.5 million USD) on its opening day.
