Deutsche Börse (DB1), the operator of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in Germany, has made a significant investment by acquiring a 1.5% stake in Payward Inc., the parent company of cryptocurrency exchange Kraken, for $200 million. This investment values Kraken at approximately $13.3 billion and is part of a strategic partnership aimed at facilitating institutional cryptocurrency adoption in Europe. The partnership, initiated in December, focuses on integrating traditional and digital markets, enhancing services such as trading, custody, and tokenized assets for institutional clients. Although Kraken had announced plans for an initial public offering (IPO) in November, those plans have been postponed due to unfavorable market conditions. Additionally, Kraken is currently dealing with an extortion threat from a criminal group, which has attempted to exploit unauthorized access incidents affecting about 2,000 accounts. The company has stated that no funds were at risk and is cooperating with law enforcement.
