The Union Cabinet of India has sanctioned two railway expansion projects totaling ₹24,815 crore (approximately $3 billion USD). The Ghaziabad-Sitapur project, covering 403 km, is set to cost ₹14,926 crore and is expected to be completed in four years. It will develop six new stations and facilitate an additional freight capacity of 36 million tonnes per annum, reducing logistics costs by ₹2,877 crore annually. This project will also generate 274 lakh human-days of employment and provide environmental benefits equivalent to planting 5 crore trees.
The second project, the Rajahmundry (Nidadavolu)-Visakhapatnam (Duvvada) line, spans 198 km and is estimated at ₹9,889 crore, with a completion timeline of five years. It will improve logistics efficiency and enable an additional freight capacity of 29 million tonnes per annum, generating 135 lakh human-days of employment and saving ₹1,151 crore in logistics costs annually. Additionally, it will contribute to significant carbon savings, akin to planting around 2 crore trees.
