Tata Group chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran announced plans to manufacture 2 million vehicles, including hydrogen-powered buses and trucks, at the company's facility in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India over the next five years. This announcement follows the achievement of rolling out the one millionth vehicle, a zero-emission electric bus, which aligns with Uttar Pradesh's net-zero vision for 2070 and Tata's goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2045. Chandrasekaran highlighted the favorable investment climate and infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh, predicting significant growth for the state's economy. The expansion will also see Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) potentially doubling its workforce in the region from 20,000 to 40,000 professionals within five years. Additionally, Tata Group is committed to social initiatives, including water conservation projects in Mathura and establishing an AI Technology Centre of Excellence in Gorakhpur. Tata Motors Managing Director and CEO Girish Wagh confirmed that a hydrogen-powered bus is expected to be rolled out from the Lucknow plant within the next 30 months.
