The Bombay High Court in Mumbai has mandated that both parties involved in the upcoming elections for the Asiatic Society of Mumbai provide a fresh timeline for the election process, which includes finalizing the voters' list and nominations. This directive follows a recent pause in the elections, originally scheduled for March 14, due to an order from the charity commissioner. The order called for the appointment of a committee to prepare a new voters' list and manage the society's daily operations. Senior journalist Kumar Ketkar, a presidential candidate, along with others, challenged this order in court, arguing that it was issued without prior notice and without giving members a chance to be heard, raising concerns about procedural fairness. During the hearing on Thursday, Justice Farhan Dubash noted that if the matter were sent back to the charity commissioner, it could lead to further delays. The court is seeking a practical resolution and has scheduled another hearing for Friday.
