Nebraska's Memorial Stadium, a historic venue with a 103-year legacy, is set for a $600 million renovation aimed at enhancing the fan experience and boosting revenue for the University of Nebraska's athletic department. The project, known as the 'Big Red Rebuild,' will be funded through $250 million in philanthropic contributions and $350 million in private bond financing. Scheduled for completion by the start of the 2028 football season, the renovation will increase the stadium's capacity to 80,000, including 20,000 new chairback seats. Athletic director Troy Dannen emphasized the importance of modernizing the stadium to ensure it remains competitive in the evolving landscape of college athletics. The upgrades will also facilitate year-round events, aiming to increase annual stadium revenue by 40% to about $95 million. Construction is expected to commence after the 2026 football season, following previous incremental improvements and a halted $450 million renovation plan in 2023.
