On April 10, Lt Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena attended the funeral of Colonel Sonam Wangchuk, a celebrated Kargil war hero, in Leh, Ladakh. Col Wangchuk, known as the 'Lion of Ladakh,' was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra for his exceptional bravery and leadership during the 1999 Kargil War. In a solemn ceremony, Saxena laid a wreath and paid tribute to the decorated soldier, who was honored with a Guard of Honour by the Ladakh Scouts. The Lt Governor expressed profound sadness over the loss and praised Col Wangchuk's indomitable courage, stating that his legacy would inspire future generations. To commemorate the late officer's contributions, Saxena announced plans to establish a memorial in Leh, which will serve as a symbol of pride for the people of Ladakh. The funeral was attended by senior Army officials, family members, and a large gathering of the public, reflecting the deep respect held for Col Wangchuk.
