The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has expressed concern over India's persistent doping issues, as the country has been the top offender for three consecutive years, showing the highest positive doping rate among major nations. WADA president Witold Bańka emphasized that performance-enhancing drugs are widely available in India, which is a significant producer of these substances. He highlighted the importance of collaboration with various stakeholders, including the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), to enhance efforts against doping networks. NADA head Anant Kumar outlined a strategy to tackle doping, which includes increasing testing from approximately 4,000 samples in 2019 to 8,000 by 2025. However, this number remains low compared to countries like China, which conducts over 15,000 tests annually. Bańka noted that an increase in positive cases could indicate a more effective detection system. He also pointed out the need to focus on suppliers and enablers of doping, such as coaches and managers, rather than solely blaming athletes, who are often victims in this process. With cricket returning to the Olympics in 2028 in Los Angeles, Kumar stated that while cricket is immensely popular, it remains a low-risk sport in terms of doping.
