After more than 13 years since the last Indian Grand Prix at the Buddh International Circuit in 2013, India's Sports Minister announced an ambitious target for Formula One's return by 2027. However, sources suggest that 2029 might be a more realistic timeframe due to the complexities of organizing such events. Former President of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), Vicky Chandok, expressed optimism about the government's renewed commitment to motorsport, highlighting efforts to secure national sports federation recognition for the FMSCI. This recognition is crucial for streamlining permissions and funding, which could pave the way for both Formula One and MotoGP events in India. Despite the minister's enthusiasm, Formula One officials have tempered expectations, stating that organizing races involves intricate logistics and planning. Currently, MotoGP is seen as a more immediate opportunity to rebuild India's status in global motorsport, while Formula One's return remains a longer-term goal.
