A 31-year-old entrepreneur from Jayanagar, Bengaluru, has filed a police complaint after falling victim to a honeytrap that resulted in significant financial loss and the distribution of intimate videos to his wife. The incident began in August 2024 when he connected with a woman on Instagram for business purposes. Their relationship progressed to in-person meetings, but the woman later began extorting him for money, claiming to have recorded their private moments. She initially demanded ₹1.5 crore but he paid ₹10 lakh and provided valuables worth approximately ₹2.5 lakh. Despite these payments, she went ahead and shared the videos with his wife. The police have registered a case under Section 308 (extortion) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 66E and 67 of the IT Act. Investigations are ongoing to locate the accused and analyze the digital evidence related to the case.
