- 02Current corporation hall, built in 1893, can only accommodate 150-175 people despite an increase in corporators to 237.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has proposed the construction of a new corporation hall for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to address ongoing space and parking issues. This proposal, the first since 1893, comes after 20 municipal corporators faced penalties for parking violations outside the civic headquarters. The current hall, established when there were only 64 corporators, now struggles to accommodate 237 members, with seating for only 150 to 175 individuals. The need for a new facility was emphasized by Ganesh Khankar, the leader of the house and a BJP corporator, who noted that even on days when 50% of councillors are present, there is insufficient space for all attendees, including administrative staff and press members. An alternative plan involves converting defunct offices on the sixth floor of the BMC's annex building into a larger hall, though this would require administrative clearance. The existing hall, a heritage site with ornate architectural features, has faced challenges in expanding its capacity due to its protected status.
