The self-enumeration campaign for the Census 2027 was officially launched by Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer Satpal Sharma in Chandigarh and Panchkula. This initiative, running from April 16 to April 30, allows residents to fill out their census details online from home. Sharma registered himself on the official online portal to demonstrate the process, which he described as simple, secure, and fully digital. Citizens can log in using their mobile numbers through one-time password (OTP) authentication. After logging in, they must select their state, district, and local area, and mark their residence on a digital map. Upon completion, a unique self-enumeration (SE) ID will be generated, which residents should keep safe for verification when enumerators visit their homes. Sharma urged citizens to take advantage of this facility and actively participate in the census.
