Elk Island Public Schools celebrated the receipt of provincial funding for the planning of the Elk Island-Heartland Collegiate School, which will replace the aging Rudolph Hennig Junior High and Fort Saskatchewan High in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada. This initiative is part of the provincial government's commitment to invest $110 million in new school projects and modernization through Budget 2026. The new school, located in the developing Southridge area, will have a capacity of 1,600 students and is designed to offer specialized programming that aligns with industry needs in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland. Colleen Holowaychuk, the division board chair, emphasized the necessity for modern learning environments to prepare students for future careers, highlighting that the current high school is 68 years old and the junior high is 58 years old. Although a construction timeline has not been finalized, the project is expected to commence within three to five years after the design phase is completed.
