On Thursday evening, five individuals were injured in a road accident in Karera, Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh, involving a Mahindra Thar SUV driven by Dinesh Lodhi, the son of BJP MLA Pritam Lodhi. The incident occurred around 7:30 PM when the SUV struck a motorcycle from behind, injuring three friends—Sanjay, Ashish, and Anshul Parihar—who were en route to Dhanra village. The vehicle then hit two women, Sita Verma and Pooja Soni, who were walking on the roadside. Sanjay Parihar sustained serious injuries, while the others suffered injuries to their heads, limbs, and shoulders. Bystanders quickly transported the injured to a nearby hospital. Following the incident, a video emerged showing Dinesh Lodhi arguing with witnesses and blaming the victims for not clearing the way, stating, “When I was using the siren and honking, why didn’t they move away?” Police have registered a case against him under Section 281 (rash and negligent driving endangering life) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). This new legislation replaces earlier provisions of the Indian Penal Code and stipulates penalties for driving that endangers human life. MLA Pritam Lodhi has urged the police to act fairly and ensure justice for the victims.
