Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are set to receive a significant boost with the arrival of Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana, who has recovered from a calf strain sustained during the T20 World Cup. Currently languishing at the bottom of the IPL table with just one point from six matches, KKR is desperate for a turnaround. Pathirana, who was bought for ₹18 crore at the last IPL auction, has cleared the mandatory fitness test and is expected to join the squad ahead of their match against Rajasthan Royals. However, he is unlikely to play immediately as the team's medical staff will first evaluate his fitness during training sessions. KKR's bowling has been a major concern, compounded by the absence of key players like Mustafizur Rahman and injuries to Harshit Rana and Akash Deep. The team has struggled in their opening matches, failing to defend high scores and suffering heavy defeats, including a 65-run loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad.
