Varun Vummadi, co-founder and CEO of Giga, a startup based in San Francisco, has gained attention for rejecting a lucrative job offer of $525,000 and a place in a Stanford PhD program to focus on his venture. Founded in 2023 with Esha Manideep, Giga specializes in developing voice-based AI agents for businesses and successfully raised $61 million in a Series A funding round led by Redpoint Ventures. Vummadi shared his journey at Y Combinator’s Startup School India event in Bengaluru, highlighting his humble beginnings and his decision to pursue entrepreneurship with his college friend. However, the company is currently facing allegations of misconduct from a former employee, who claimed to have evidence of malpractices. Giga has denied these allegations, asserting that it is being blackmailed by a small group of former employees. Y Combinator partner Jared Friedman has publicly supported Giga, dismissing the fraud allegations as false.
