In a recent address in the Lok Sabha, Akhilesh Yadav (chief of the Samajwadi Party) criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly reducing women's issues to mere slogans. He called for the inclusion of Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Muslim women in the reservation framework, asserting that true representation is essential for effective reservation. Yadav expressed concerns regarding the delay in the national census, suggesting that the government might be avoiding enumeration to manipulate boundaries for delimitation. He emphasized that the first census must be conducted before any delimitation occurs. Furthermore, Yadav questioned the BJP's track record on women's representation, asking how many women hold positions in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and how many BJP-ruled states have women chief ministers. He also remarked on the limited powers of the Delhi chief minister, referring to them as functioning as a 'half chief minister' due to the Union Territory's constraints.
