The Punjab government has launched a significant initiative to combat organized crime and drug abuse by partnering with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar. This collaboration aims to develop an AI-powered crime prevention system that will utilize advanced tools for data analysis, voice recognition, and dashboard monitoring. The project focuses on creating a comprehensive database of criminals by digitizing both structured and unstructured data, such as scanned PDFs and handwritten records. By converting this data into actionable intelligence and predictive models, the initiative seeks to streamline police investigations and enhance intelligence-led policing. The Data Intelligence and Technical Support Unit (DITSU) in Mohali will coordinate efforts to support the government's 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' campaign against substance abuse, highlighting the critical role of data in modern policing.
