In a recent meeting on the sidelines of the World Bank Group-International Monetary Fund Spring Meetings in New Delhi, leaders of Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) highlighted the urgent need for collaboration to support member countries amid escalating global uncertainty, particularly in West Asia. ADB president Masato Kanda emphasized that MDBs are combining financial strength and knowledge to help nations navigate immediate challenges such as higher energy costs and supply chain disruptions. The MDB heads reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing private sector development, job creation, and infrastructure investment, with a focus on sustainable growth. They agreed to establish a working group to improve transparency in credit risks and to scale up local currency financing, which would help mitigate exchange rate risks. Additionally, the MDBs introduced the Water Forward initiative to promote investable water systems that drive prosperity and resilience. They also plan to collaborate on critical minerals and artificial intelligence to support energy security and job creation.
